Malaria is a life-threatening disease.It is caused by Plasmodium parasite through the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquito. P. falciparum is the most prevalent malaria parasite on the African continent. P. vivax is the dominant malaria parasite outside African region. People all over the world apart from areas that have achieved malaria elimination are at risk of malaria infection. Pregnant women, infants, children below five, HIV/AIDS, Sickle celled individuals share a higher risk. In 2015, 91 countries had ongoing transmission(WHO) African region carries the highest share of global malaria burden. In 2015, the region was home to 90% of malaria cases and 92% of malaria deaths(WHO)

HOW CAN WE PREVENT MALARIA?
Vector (mosquito) control is the main way to prevent and reduce malaria transmission
Currently, two forms of vector control are adopted- Insecticide Treated mosquito Net, ITN and Indoor Residual Spraying,IRS
The use of chemoprophylaxis by pregnant women, travelers is also a preventive measure.

Making your environment toxic to mosquitoes by clearing bushes around u, clearing all waterlogged gutters, containers where mosquito can breed AND adhering to preventive measures listed above.
